Getting the perfect crust on a loaf of bread is a bit of a tightrope walk. You’re dealing with a tiny temperature window. If you’re off by just a degree or two, you end up with a disaster—either a pale, soggy crust or a burnt exterior with a raw center. That’s why we stick with circular clear quartz infrared heaters. They don’t mess around with heating up the air first. They just beam the heat directly onto the dough. It’s instant. The heat side of things Since these are clear quartz tubes, the shortwave infrared radiation just slides right through the glass. The energy hits the dough immediately. When you’re picking these out, keep an eye on the wattage-to-length ratio. That’s what controls your heat density. High wattage means you can get up to temperature fast, but you’ve got to be careful. If your PID controllers aren’t tuned right or your sensors are lagging, you’ll overshoot your target. And once you overshoot, that batch is toast. We keep them clear on purpose. No coatings, no fluff—just maximum energy transmission. The trade-offs Here’s the catch: wiring these into a high-precision oven can be tricky. You’ll want shielded cabling, otherwise, electrical noise (EMI) can mess with your temperature probes and give you ghost readings. Also, remember that while quartz is powerful, it’s fragile. It can’t take a hit. If your oven vibrates too much or something bumps into the tubes, they’ll snap. Make sure your mounting brackets are secure so they can expand and contract as they heat up without snapping. And a word of advice? Don’t try to cheat the clock by cranking the wattage way too high. You might shave a few seconds off your bake time, but you’ll be replacing filaments a lot more often. It’s a balance.
