Getting Your PET Thermal Profiles Right
Ever pull a bottle off the line and see that annoying pearlescent haze? Or maybe the walls are way too thin in some spots and thick in others. It’s frustrating. Usually, it all comes down to one thing: your temperature control. If you’re running SIPA SFR 16s or Krones Contiform lines, you know the IR lamps are the parts that take the most abuse. We make replacement lamps that hit the same specs as the OEM ones, but they won’t break your maintenance budget. The deal with power and voltage These machines use shortwave IR radiation to blast the preform with heat. The goal is to get it hot fast without melting the neck. We use high-wattage quartz tubes built for specific voltage needs. When you have a high-voltage setup, you can cram more heat into a smaller space. It’s the only way to get the PET polymer ready in a matter of seconds. If your voltage dips or the wattage starts acting up, your blow-up ratio is going to suffer. Period. Quartz and connectors (The boring but important stuff) We use heavy-wall quartz glass. Why? Because we don’t want the tubes bowing when things get scorching hot. Inside, the tungsten filament is halogen-cycled. That basically pushes the heat back into the center of the tube, which keeps the lamp from burning out nearly as fast. As for the install, most of these use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements. You don’t have to mess with your wiring or tear apart the oven. Just swap the tube, calibrate your PID controllers, and you’re back in business. A few things to watch out for Here’s the thing: more heat puts more stress on your ventilation. If you switch to high-density lamps to speed up your cycles, your cooling blowers have to work a lot harder. You don’t want your machine frame soaking up all that heat. And a quick tip? Check your reflectors every time you change a lamp. A dirty reflector can waste about 20% of your energy. That forces the lamp to run hotter than it needs to, which just kills the lifespan of the bulb. Keep them clean, and your lamps will last much longer.
