
Stop throwing away your patio heaters every five years
If you’ve ever managed a nightclub patio, you know it’s basically a war zone for electronics. You’ve got humidity, salt air, and the inevitable spilled drinks. Most heaters try to fight this by sealing everything shut, but that usually backfires. Those seals end up trapping heat or letting corrosion eat the internals from the inside out. Eventually, something snaps. And usually, that’s when the “5-year burnout” hits. Here’s the problem: most heaters are built as one big, permanent chunk. When a single heating element dies, you’re stuck. You can’t just fix it; you have to scrap the whole chassis and start over. It’s a waste of money and a massive headache. We decided to do things differently. We built our heaters with a modular setup. Instead of welding the infrared emitter into the housing, we made the heating tubes “drop-in” replacements. Think of it like changing a lightbulb. When a tube finally gives out after a few seasons, you don’t need to call an electrician to rewire the whole unit. You just pull the old tube out, slide a new one in, and lock the connectors. It takes a few minutes. It’s that simple. But there’s a catch with waterproofing. Usually, “waterproof” means “impossible to open.” We solved that by using a gasketed approach. We tucked the electrical junctions away in their own IP-rated boxes to keep them bone-dry, but we kept the heating element behind a quick-release panel. You get the protection you need without the heater being permanently sealed shut. Now, this kind of design is harder to build. Since the tubes aren’t soldered in place, the brackets have to be perfect. If they shift even a little, the heat doesn’t hit where it should. Extreme heat cycles tend to warp cheap metal, so we used heavy-gauge stainless steel for the mounts. They don’t budge. At the end of the day, your equipment shouldn’t become a pile of scrap metal just because one part failed. Swap the tube, check your seals, and get your guests warm again.
