
Why We Use Explosion-Proof Quartz in Bathroom Heaters
If you’re putting an infrared heater in a bathroom ceiling, you’re dealing with a recipe for disaster: extreme heat and sudden moisture. Think about it. You’ve got a heating element glowing at several hundred degrees. Then, a stray splash of cold water hits it or a cloud of thick steam settles on the glass. In most materials, that sudden temperature crash causes the tube to just… snap. Thermal shock is the enemy here. That’s where the quartz comes in. We don’t use regular glass because it can’t handle the mood swings of a shower. Instead, we go with specialized explosion-proof quartz. It doesn’t freak out when the temperature shifts, so it doesn’t expand or shrink violently when things get damp. And because we like to be extra safe, we wrap the quartz in a reinforced casing or a safety mesh. It’s a simple fail-safe. If a tube ever does wear out and break, the shards stay put. No surprises. The heat side of things These lamps use shortwave infrared. The best part? You feel the warmth on your skin the second you flip the switch. You aren’t waiting around for the air in the room to warm up—you’re the one getting warmed. But there’s a catch. To get that instant heat, these lamps run at a high wattage. That creates a lot of concentrated heat right at the surface of the tube. If you’re installing these, double-check your wiring and make sure your ceiling housing can handle the load. If the ventilation is too tight, you’ll cook your own internal electronics. Not a great look. A quick tip on installation We’ve made these easy to swap out. Most use standard connectors, so when a tube finally burns out, you can pop a new one in without a headache. But here is the most important part:don’t touch the glass with your bare hands. It sounds weird, but the oils from your skin leave invisible marks on the quartz. Those oils create “hotspots” when the lamp turns on, which can actually cause the tube to fail way sooner than it should. Wear gloves, or if you’ve already touched it, just wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol before you power it up. Your heater will thank you.
