
Making IR Lamps Safe for the Places That Actually Matter
When you’re designing an infrared heater for a nursery or a bathroom, you can’t just throw raw power at the problem. In a factory, “more heat” is usually the goal. But in a home? Especially around a baby? That’s a different story. Most industrial lamps just blast everything—visible light, UV, you name it. In a bathroom, that creates a blinding glare that’s honestly just stressful for the eyes. Getting the light right We fix this by cleaning up the spectrum. A standard quartz heater is basically a bright white spotlight. To keep things gentle on the eyes, we use specific coatings or doped quartz glass. This pushes the energy toward the long-wave infrared side of things. The result? You get all that cozy, skin-warming heat, but without the blinding brightness. It feels natural, not like you’re under a heat lamp at a buffet. The nitty-gritty hardware These lamps run on the same power you have in your walls, but the heat is really concentrated in one spot. We use high-purity quartz tubes so the warmth hits you quickly. And since we’re talking about bathrooms, water is the enemy. We make sure the housing is waterproof (IPX4 or better). If those seals aren’t tight, a little bit of steam or a stray splash will fry the electronics in a heartbeat. To make life easier for the person installing it, we usually stick with R7s snap-in connectors. They’re simple. You just pop them in, and you’re done. No fuss, no huge footprint. The one trade-off Here’s the catch. Because we’re filtering out those aggressive, shorter wavelengths to protect your eyes, you lose that “instant-on” snap you get from a raw halogen bulb. It’s a smoother ramp-up. It takes a few extra seconds to hit peak temperature. It’s a small price to pay for safety, but it means we have to design the housing to handle that slower heat build-up so the internal electronics don’t get baked.
