
Getting Your Husky HyPET Heating Just Right
When you’re running a high-speed PET line, you’re basically fighting a battle with heat. The trick is getting that warmth deep into the center of the preform wall without accidentally scorching the outside. It’s a delicate balance. To make this work, we’ve tweaked the IR spectrum of our quartz halogen lamps. We basically tuned them to “speak the same language” as the PET resin, so the heat actually sinks in rather than just bouncing off. The problem with standard lamps Most lamps just bake the outer skin. That’s how you end up with bottles that have uneven walls—which is a nightmare for quality control. We use specific coatings and gas fills to push the energy toward longer wavelengths. This lets the heat penetrate deeper. The result? a smooth, steady temperature from the outside all the way to the core. The heavy lifting These tubes are built for the grind. When you’re pushing 400V, you get the kind of heat density that keeps your cycle times fast. But here’s the thing: that much power puts a lot of stress on your cooling blowers. If your airflow isn’t up to the task, those lamp ends are going to overheat. Just keep an eye on your fans. Getting them in the machine We didn’t want you spending hours on installation. These are drop-in replacements. They use standard connectors, so they plug right into your Husky chassis without any “creative” wiring or modifications. Plus, we use high-purity quartz glass so they don’t burn out the second things get intense. The real-world side of things These lamps are great for killing off those annoying “cold spots” and cutting down on scrap. Your cycle times will look better, too. But a word of caution: because these lamps penetrate so deeply, you have to be spot-on with your distance calibration. If the tube is even a tiny bit too close to the preform, you’ll burn the material. Stick to the gaps in your manual. It’s the only way to keep that sweet spot between deep penetration and a burnt surface.
