
Why Your Bathroom Heater is Actually a Mold-Fighter
Most people think those bathroom heat lamps are just there to keep you from shivering when you step out of the shower. But there’s a bit more going on under the hood. We don’t just build these to warm up the air. We design them to hunt down moisture. Here is the secret: these lamps use infrared light. While a regular heater tries to warm the air (which just floats away the second you open the door), infrared goes straight for the surfaces. It hits your mirror, your walls, and your ceiling. By keeping those surfaces warm, the water in the air doesn’t have a chance to settle and turn into those annoying little droplets. And if the walls stay dry, mold doesn’t have a place to move in and start growing. It’s a huge help to your exhaust fan, too. The lamps basically push the water off the walls and into the air so the fan can suck it out faster. Your bathroom just dries out… well, faster. Now, a couple of things to keep in mind before you go installing these. These lamps pull a decent amount of power. You’ll want to make sure your wiring and breakers can handle the load, otherwise, you’ll be staring at a tripped switch in the dark. Also, since they get seriously hot, we use heavy-duty housing. You don’t want a fixture that’s going to scorch your ceiling over time. We also use quartz glass and sealed connectors. Why? Because shower stalls are brutal on electronics. Without that protection, moisture would seep into the filaments and pop the bulb way too soon. Just get the wiring right, keep the air moving, and you can pretty much forget about mold.
